What Kind Of Care Is Covered?

This program can help pay for swing bed, state hospital, or nursing facility care if you have limited income and resources and are likely to be there for 30 consecutive days.

How Much Of My Income Can I Keep?

You can keep $50 per month for personal needs.

Can My Spouse Get Any Of My Income?

Yes. The community spouse can receive your other income to bring his/her income up to $2,267 per month. This amount may increase each year.

Does My Spouse Have To Spend His Or Her Own Income On My Nursing Home Care?

No. Income in the community spouse's name is that person's income and not available to you for your care.

What Amount Of Resources Am I Allowed To Keep?

You can keep up to $3,000 in countable resources.

What Amount Of Resources Can My Spouse At Home Keep?

The spousal share is ½ of both of your countable assets, but not less than $20,880 and not more than $104,400.

How Do I Determine The Amount Of Resources My Spouse At Home Can Keep?

• The program looks at what resources you had when you entered the facility. This includes resources in your name and in your spouses name.
  
  
• You can request the county social services office to do an assessment of your resources.
  
  
• The assessment will show how much either of you can keep
  
  
• It is advisable to request the assessment at the time you enter the facility. This is so you do not use resources which you can keep.

What Resources Are Not Counted?

1. Your home and connecting land, if occupied, one motor vehicle, household goods and furniture, and personal effects and clothing.
   
   
2. Property used to produce income and property up for sale, but not sold.
   
   
3. Any prepayments or deposits which total $5000 or less, which are designated and maintained by you for your burial. Any interest that accrues on the total amount of the designated burial fund are excluded.
   
   
4. The burial fund must be identifiable and may not be commingled with other funds.
   
   
5. The value of an irrevocable burial agreement may be considered toward your burial exclusion.
   
   
6. A burial plot for each family member.
   
   
7. The value of a life estate. The County may impute income from your life estate interest
   
   
8. The value of mineral acres.
